Summer Camp 2014: Children are having lots of fun and participating in various expressive and creative activities.

July 2, 2016 was the last day of school in the Democratic Republic of Congo and all the children were happy to get their school results . On behalf of all the children we THANK YOU for making this school year possible for all the children we help.  We could not do this without your support.

Providing educational activities for the children and young people during school holidays is not just a nice thing to do. In fact, it is really important to us. This is the time when children may be required to work or spend all the day on the street, making them vulnerable and at risk. Giving them a place to go, food to eat and activities to get involved with, protects them for a little bit longer and equips them for life in new and better ways.

Our summer camp program is offered to children and youth between the ages of 4 and 16. For one month, these children and youth attend camp 6 days a week. This program aims to promote the values of peace, active non-violence and the peaceful co-existence of all people. In addition to having lots of fun and participating in various expressive art and creative activities (Drawing, Painting, Cinema, Theatre, Dance, Poetry, etc…), they are given opportunities to learn and develop valuable teamwork and leadership skills.

This year we are offering 4 additional activities as part of our Summer Camp Program and we really need your support to reach our goals:

1. Computer Class: 5 children will receive a sponsorship to study computer skills in Uvira. Most of our children have not ever seen a computer and they do not know its important role. We want them to gain computer skills during this summer so that other children will benefit from their peers after the training.

2. English class: 5 children will receive a sponsorship to study English in Uvira. French and Swahili are two languages frequently spoken in this area, and the children are excited when they meet someone who speaks English. Five of our children are interested in learning English so that next time they can read and write letters from their sponsors without translating them in a local language. By learning English they will also be able to help other children who participate in our Pen Pals Program.

3. Visit: This summer our children will visit the Hydrobiology Research Center in Uvira, where they will not only learn more about the aquatic animals they studied in school, but be able to actually see them in real life! They will see crocodiles and fish and other animals living under water.

4. Letter Exchange Project: Our partner organization in Canada linked us with a youth protection organization, with which we will start a letter exchange program this summer. Our children will be learning more about Canada and they will be sharing more about the Congo with their new friends in Canada through letter exchanges.

TOTAL COST OF THE SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM: $430 U.S Dollars

As you can see, we need a total of $430 U.S. dollars to run our Summer Camp Program. In order to reach our goal, we need your HELP. Your generosity truly makes a difference. You can donate today.

Donations in ANY amount are appreciated. When making your donation, please make a note letting us know you wish your donation to be applied to our Summer Camp Program.

Once again, thank you for supporting the children of DR Congo.
