It’s a familiar story for many parents at the start of the new school year. Buying a new uniform, making sure the shoes are polished and running through the logistics of the school run for that all-important first day.
It might seem stressful but our children are lucky to have access to a good education, and that we are there to worry about them and look after them.
For many vulnerable children who include orphans, children from the street, child mothers, neglected, abused and abandoned children among others, having access to education is a struggle and being prepared for a new school year is an impossibility.
Many children like Suzana have had to grow up fast since losing their parents, their priorities change from doing homework to looking after their remaining family. Your help gives them the perseverance to achieve success in their lives.
At Flamme d’Avenir – Flame of The Future, we feel that education is a right – not a privilege. We want our orphaned children to become the architects, designers, and innovative thinkers of tomorrow.
Join us in giving these children the equipment they need that we take for granted. Through our ‘’Empower Me’’ through Education Program 21USD per Month can provide tuition, books, uniforms, stationery and a school bag to put it all in.
We are thankful to announce that the year is scheduled to start this Monday September 5th, 2022 in DRC. We count on your continued support.
Please, act now and give these young lives the best start to the new school year.
Oftentimes, the opportunity we have to make an impact is right in front of us. We want to remind you that giving and being of service does not need to be extravagant, we just need to be willing to offer what is in our hands.
Throughout this school year, Flamme d’Avenir is highlighting the current need for sponsorship. Each sponsored child is a story changed. We are highlighting boys and girls that are in need of sponsorship.
It is important to encourage, support and nurture the gifts of the children. They might be the next great leaders, or entrepreneurs, or scientists, or athletes, or artists, or musicians or pastors. Whatever it is, we can help to bring this out. It is a gift to their community and the world.
Flamme d’Avenir’s Educational Program is a Child Sponsorship Program in which financial support is provided for the most vulnerable children in the DRC so they can attend school. Some of these children are handicapped, abused, orphans, former child soldiers, or from underprivileged families.
Access to education is a life/nation changing oppourtunity that you can be a part of. A donation for these children is an investiment that will shape the future of their communities.
Sponsoring a child gives life and hope for a better future. Each Flamme d’Avenir’s scholarship includes : tuition, supplies, uniforms and other fees so every child can chase their dreams.
For an average of $250, you can send one of the children we care for to school for one year with tuition, medical care, school supplies, and uniform paid for. If you prefer, you can make a monthly donation in the amount of $25. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
Your sponsorship will change a life of a child in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi, Africa. We believe it’s a big deal to give to a child you may never physically meet, but we know that the relationship you will build with the child you support and the impact you will have on their life is totally worth the investment.
We desire for you to truly know the child you sponsor and we guarantee they will know you. Your child will rely on your monthly support to attend school. They will look forward to writing you messages, share their academic progress, and send video messages from time-to-time. They need you.
Flamme d’Avenir uses a lifecycle approach in our educational programs that focuses on the needs of children at all stages of development: early childhood, basic education, adolescence, and youth. We are committed to seeing each child who is selected to receive a Flamme d’Avenir’s scholarship, graduate and receive their diploma.
We are raising money to assist with the relief efforts related to the ongoing crisis after the Nyiragongo Volcano erupted on Saturday 22th May 2021 without warning. Goma is a beautiful lakeside town just on the outskirts of the Virunga National Park, home to about 1.5 million people in Eastern Congo.
While the initial lava flow stopped short of the city center, hundreds of earthquakes have rocked the area, the death toll is estimated at about 35 so far, and the eruption destroyed essential water, electricity and road infrastructure for the city. The volcano continues to threaten further activity, which prompted the evacuation of about 400,000 people on Thursday May 27th .
Since last week, families are beginning to return to their homes. Many of their homes have been broken into and looted, others have not withstood the effects of the earthquakes and others (who are living North outside of Goma) are completely destroyed by lava. Parents have been out of employment for couple of weeks and many may come back to a job that may not be there anymore. There are also many missing children, because families were separated during the scramble to evacuate.
Please join us with your contribution in order to give hope to these victims of volcano eruption and the ongoing crisis in the region. Donate by giving to: https://flammedavenir.org/donate/
The money will help the victims to survive, cure they wounds, give them basic medical help, deliver food and basic products for them and help to rebuild their houses.
For the past 5 years, we have been celebrating Christmas as part of our Flamme d’Avenir Education program, gathering more than 500 children.
The Children’s Christmas Project is a special and unique opportunity to bring some joy to children whose parents are not in a financial position to give them something special during this festive time of the year. Through this event, the children are invited to gather, rejoice and have fun, enjoy a delicious feast, hear a message of Christ’s love and enjoying the holiday together.
When you give a gift through Flamme d’Avenir, you’re helping to ensure that every child in our programme receives a tangible expression of God’s love at Christmas time.
Thank you for sharing your Christmas with children who have so little – it means so much to them and it is a moment of pure joy.
This Christmas, spread some joy to a child in need – click below to donate to our Christmas Appeal today. Donations in ANY amount are greatly appreciated.
Thanks to the support from our friends in Canada, we are able to launch a new project to give chickens to the children we serve.
Through this project, Flamme d’Avenir aims to provide vital nutrition to children and families while also giving them the opportunity to earn extra income through animal & agricultural support.
Would you consider joining the efforts of our friends in Canada? We need your support so that we can serve many more children in need.
For only $25 USD, you will provide a needy family with 2 chickens. You may click HERE TO GIVE
Chickens and their eggs are a beautiful gift of nutritious food you can give for a hungry family. They are easy to breed–so your gift can grow and multiply to create income, share with neighbors, and ultimately make a better life for the whole village.
Your gift of chickens will also naturally multiply to impact generations of children. Each family that receives chickens can sell the offspring for extra income or share them with other families in need. Chicks require little money, space, or food to thrive and grow; making them an ideal business venture for a single mom or vulnerable family.
We are so grateful because it’s a big help, especially in providing even more for the needs of the children we are already serving with their schooling and their health. The families who benefit from this project will be able to sell chickens and eggs to their neighbors, using the income to buy rice, milk, sugar, and school supplies for their children.
At Flamme d’Avenir, we believe that if we can change a life we can also change a family, and if we can change a family, we can also change a community and if we can change enough communities, we will change the world.
This year as we observe our season of Christmas, let us be grateful not only in word but also in deed. Let our gratitude find expression as we resolve to live a life more as Jesus taught us.
When we sit around our tables laden with sumptuous delicacies, let us not forget that nearly a billion people around the world will go to bed hungry. As we enjoy the comforts of our cozy homes, let us not forget that great numbers have no homes to go to. When we step into our modern cars, let us not forget that many people in the world cannot afford even a bicycle.
The Children’s Christmas Project is a special and unique opportunity to bring some joy to children whose parents are not in a financial position to give them something special during this festive time of year. This project reaches beyond the ministry of the children in the education program. Through this event, the children are invited to gather, rejoice and have fun, enjoying the holiday together.
Christmas is a time for celebration and giving and sharing with one another, so it is at this time when we do our best to bring joy to others by hosting a party such as this.
For the past 3 years, we have been celebrating Christmas as part of our Flamme d’Avenir Education program, gathering 300+ community members, including our 50+ children enrolled in the educational sponsorship program.
How you can help:
You can start a ‘’Christmas Circle’’: in this case, you will share with at least one or more closer friends or family members about this Christmas Project and each will contribute according to his/her means. This money will help us to serve and feed many children during this Christmas Event.
Make a donation to support women’s activities: Your contribution will help our sponsored children’s mothers to start small business activities which will help them provide for their families and create a better future.
Sponsor a child: Would you be willing to sponsor a child’s education? Maybe you are already sponsor and are able to sponsor another? Perhaps you would like to sponsor on behalf of someone else or give sponsorship to someone as an extra special birthday or Christmas gift? Do you know of a friend or relative that would consider sponsoring?
For this International Peace Day we, at Flamme d’Avenir, are praying for PEACE in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We ask that you join us in saying the following prayer, written by 15 year old Rhoda, one of the children enrolled in our education program:
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. God of mercy and compassion,of grace and reconciliation, pour your power upon all Congolese.
God of power and mercy, please destroy war, which results in a spiral of human suffering and the destruction of your bountiful creation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Eliminate violence from our midst and wipe away the tears.
Oh Lord Jesus, Bless our land with more lasting peace and fraternal understanding.
Above all, heavenly Father, touch the hearts of our political leaders in the Democratic Republic of Congo and all those in power.
I pray that they may exercise power gently, that they may humbly seek a dialogue that will bring about understanding, leading all Congolese to a place where people live together in peace and harmony. Where there is bitterness, teach us forgiveness and reconciliation. Replace hatred with love and indifference with care.
I ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen,”
During this World Peace Day, we invite you to join us by praying for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We are praying for peace, stability, reconciliation, health and safety, particularly for women and children. We are asking for God’s protection from those who afflict pain and commit horrendous acts of violence.
We are praying for international communities working with the DRC government to find solutions to these hugely complex issues. We are praying for godly wisdom and discernment for those working to bring lasting change and peace.
Your prayers matter!
Thank you for remembering the Democratic Republic of Congo in your prayers today.
July 2, 2016 was the last day of school in the Democratic Republic of Congo and all the children were happy to get their school results . On behalf of all the children we THANK YOU for making this school year possible for all the children we help. We could not do this without your support.
Providing educational activities for the children and young people during school holidays is not just a nice thing to do. In fact, it is really important to us. This is the time when children may be required to work or spend all the day on the street, making them vulnerable and at risk. Giving them a place to go, food to eat and activities to get involved with, protects them for a little bit longer and equips them for life in new and better ways.
Our summer camp program is offered to children and youth between the ages of 4 and 16. For one month, these children and youth attend camp 6 days a week. This program aims to promote the values of peace, active non-violence and the peaceful co-existence of all people. In addition to having lots of fun and participating in various expressive art and creative activities (Drawing, Painting, Cinema, Theatre, Dance, Poetry, etc…), they are given opportunities to learn and develop valuable teamwork and leadership skills.
This year we are offering 4 additional activities as part of our Summer Camp Program and we really need your support to reach our goals:
1. Computer Class: 5 children will receive a sponsorship to study computer skills in Uvira. Most of our children have not ever seen a computer and they do not know its important role. We want them to gain computer skills during this summer so that other children will benefit from their peers after the training.
2. English class: 5 children will receive a sponsorship to study English in Uvira. French and Swahili are two languages frequently spoken in this area, and the children are excited when they meet someone who speaks English. Five of our children are interested in learning English so that next time they can read and write letters from their sponsors without translating them in a local language. By learning English they will also be able to help other children who participate in our Pen Pals Program.
3. Visit: This summer our children will visit the Hydrobiology Research Center in Uvira, where they will not only learn more about the aquatic animals they studied in school, but be able to actually see them in real life! They will see crocodiles and fish and other animals living under water.
4. Letter Exchange Project: Our partner organization in Canada linked us with a youth protection organization, with which we will start a letter exchange program this summer. Our children will be learning more about Canada and they will be sharing more about the Congo with their new friends in Canada through letter exchanges.
TOTAL COST OF THE SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM: $430 U.S Dollars
As you can see, we need a total of $430 U.S. dollars to run our Summer Camp Program. In order to reach our goal, we need your HELP. Your generosity truly makes a difference. You can donate today.
Donations in ANY amount are appreciated. When making your donation, please make a note letting us know you wish your donation to be applied to our Summer Camp Program.
Once again, thank you for supporting the children of DR Congo.
I am highly blessed to live a life of service. I have learned that service is not about what you have to offer. It is about the people you are serving and the impact you leave in their hearts.
At Flamme d’Avenir (Flame of the Future) we always believe that given the chance, children can play a critical role in solving the problems we face. I choose to believe that the solution to every problem we have is in the children. We must do everything we can to protect them and ensure they get an education, where they can develop the necessary skills that allow them to contribute their gifts to the world.
Flamme d’Avenir is committed to providing children with a platform to pursue their dreams without any form of discrimination or denial of their rights and privileges.
This month I was very excited when I visited a 13 year old girl enrolled in our sponsorship program. This girl is exceptional. She is helping her mother solve problems in her small business, Masoka’s mother didn’t go to school so she doesn’t know how to write and she has problems with numbers. So, Masoka helps her mother count money every evening and also shares with her mother management skills that she has learned in school.
Byaombe, the mother of this child sponsored by an American family through our sponsorship program said, ‘’Masoka is a gift I received from God. I had many problems with numbers in the daily management of my small business activities, but since she attended school through your educational program, she is really helping our family solve problems, particularly in my small business activities. I thank the family who sponsored her and for the funds they sent to me through your organization to start my small business activities. May God bless this family and the whole staff of your organization.’’
The story of this child gave me courage to continue working hard to enrol as many children as we can in our sponsorship program. I hope this child will do more in the future to help not only her family, but also her community.
Flamme d’Avenir’s Educational Program is a Child Sponsorship Program in which financial support is provided for the most vulnerable children in the DRC so they can attend school. Some of these children are handicapped, abused, orphans, former child soldiers, or from underprivileged families.
Oftentimes, the opportunity we have to make an impact is right in front of us. I want to remind you that giving and being of service does not need to be extravagant; we just need to be willing to offer what is in our hands.
Throughout this semester, Flamme d’Avenir is highlighting the current need for sponsorship. Each sponsored child is a story changed. We are highlighting boys and girls that are in need of sponsorship.
Right now, there are 36 children who need a sponsor. Would you be willing to sponsor a child? Maybe you already are a sponsor, but you are able to sponsor another? Perhaps you would like to sponsor on behalf of someone else or give sponsorship to someone as an extra special birthday gift? Do you know of a friend or relative that would consider sponsoring? We would like to ask you to help us reach our goal of finding a sponsor for each of these children by the end of December this year.
It is important to encourage, support and nurture the gifts of the children. They might be the next great leaders, or entrepreneurs, or scientists, or athletes, or artists, or musicians or pastors. Whatever it is, we can help to bring this out. It is a gift to their community and the world.
Finally, we need as many people as we can to come and volunteer to help work alongside us. You may also volunteer from where you are, as you don’t need to be in the Congo.
Don’t hesitate to contact us at flammedavenirdrc@gmail.com to learn more. You may donate directly through our PayPal account. Donations in ANY amount are greatly welcomed and will be allocated to the program of your choice.
‘’FAV Health’’ is our health program through which we provide logistical support to local health facilities. In addition to supporting patients who are unable to pay medical bills, we also provide support to survivors of sexual violence, equip the medical personnel and organize conferences in exchange for information and experience in the medical field.
In January 2015, with the support of Partage International (our Canadian International Organization Partner), we distributed our first medical supplies and spent time touring Medical Centres and Hospitals in the territory of Fizi.We now have a better understanding of the challenges that they are facing and are exploring other possible ways we can contribute.
Ongoing humanitarian crises and lack of resources has left hospitals in the Fizi Zone without the capacity to adequately serve the 405,255 inhabitants who live in this Zone.
After decades of violent conflict and medical neglect, and due to a lack of access to health care services, this local population is in great need of medical care. Furthermore, the hospitals in this zone have not escaped the conflict unharmed either. Pillaging and theft has further depleted the hospital’s stock of medications and materials and left them without the ability to respond and provide sufficient care for patients and localities at large.
Directed by Congolese physicians, the Mshimbakye Health Center and Nundu Deaconess Hospital serve a large population with few resources and little assistance. In order to help address their great need for medical supplies we, with support from Partage International, distributed medical supplies to both the Mshimbakye Health Center and Nundu Deaconess Hospital. These supplies included hospital bed sheets, medical uniforms, hospital bed pads and forceps.
Below, you can see some pictures before the Distribution:
Here you can see pictures after the Distribution of Medical supplies (These supplies included hospital bed sheets, medical uniforms, hospital bed pads and forceps):
We invite organizations, corporations, and individuals to join our efforts in providing resources and support to these health care centres through our Health Program. If you would like to offer your support, please contact us at: flammedavenirdrc@gmail.com
We also invite you to visit our Facebook page where you will see more photos and learn more about our activities.
We are very grateful to you for visiting our website and thank you for your interest in Flamme d’Avenir.
